چکیده
This paper discusses some of the technical challenges to improving the medical knowledge base by integrating real-time vital sign data into pre-hospital patient care records. Effective vital sign integration depends on the correct choice of sensor technology and intelligent design of several architectural dimensions. As an illustrative example of vital sign integration iRevive an EMS application developed for medical first response that is sensor enabled to automate the collection of fine grained vital sign sensor data is presented. Combining emerging technology such as rule-based documentation, integration of wireless/wired medical sensors, and mobile wireless devices, iRevive enhances the capabilities of emergency medical responders and creates more accurate, consistent, and complete data capture of the pre-hospital phase of patient care.

BACKGROUND The patient handover is important for the safe transition from the pre-hospital setting to secondary care. The loss of critical information about the pre-hospital phase may impact upon the clinical course of the patient. METHODS University Hospital Emergency Care registrars answered a questionnaire about how they perceive clinical documentation from the ambulance services. We also ...
متن کاملSelf-Powered Wireless Sensor Networks for Remote Patient Monitoring in Hospitals
Patient vital sign monitoring within hospitals requires the use of non-invasive sensors that are hardwired to bedside monitors. This set-up is cumbersome, forcing the patient to be confined to his hospital bed thereby not allowing him to move around freely within the hospital premises. This paper addresses the use of wireless sensor networks for monitoring patient vital sign data in a hospital ...
